@admin

Thanks, I will do but I think I have found the issue, for me at least.

After typing in the comments it is required to hit 'Enter' or 'Return' whichever you want to call it, before the run is saved.

That works for me on File+save, I still need to test it on Save+Restart and Save+Close when I'm back at work with the Yourdyno box but I'm pretty hopeful now.

This issue is now resolved for me using the explanation above 🙂

@admin so with the watchdog, does that mean the brake will let go if communication is lost? i dont like the idea of the brake letting go near the end of a run and engine peaking way past its redline if communication is lost, is this the case? 10 seconds would be ok as any run would be over by then.

Yep, the immediate release of the brake is not a good idea under high load, but it's not good either to hold the brake without control, instead use a slow ramp to release the brake like 10-15 seconds.

BTW a dedicated hardware input would be fine as emerrgency "stop" like with this slow ramp..

@hondarulez

yes i think a slow release over say 10 seconds would be better, as i have a engine dyno a release on the brake would mean instant extra rpm as there is no inertia to slow any rpm increase

i think this setting should be different from chassis dyno to engine dyno and be able to be set, i would rather the brake stays at the same load for 5sec as what it was when communication was lost, that way it just wont climb any more, then you can just pull out of the run without hurting anything. and maybe a big "ABORT RUN" should splash on screen. i dont want to download the latest version to be honest, a lot can go wrong with brakes just letting go especially on a engine dyno, you wont catch some race engines in time. we dont always run rev limiters

I agree with Boz race engines.

My previous brand x software, if it lost connection with the pda, it would activate a load and pull drum to a stop

Hi.

From josteins explanation to software149 i see that in case of lost comunication the brake turns of after a few seconds.

Could it be an solution to increase brake for a few sec instead and then turn it off

Then the over rev. Will not be posible.

I dont know if it is something that can be done?

Regards

Hi folks,

Good to see some engagement here! A few clarifications:

  • If connection is lost, the current brake value is kept until the watchdog timeout
  • The watchdog timeout is about 60 seconds(!). So by then you will have noticed if the connection is lost and turned off the engine
  • Stepper motors are unaffected, they keep the position, irrespective of the watchdog

The reason for introducing the watchdog was to minimize the chance that power is kept on to the eddy brake by accident. By design, Eddy power is turned off when you exit YourDyno normally. But if the program hangs, PC is sent to sleep or Windows crashes while the brake is on and the operator just leaves the garage without turning off the power switch (a big no-no in itself) then power could stay on and burn the brake. Now the chance of that is limited. Better safe than sorry, and no real downside to this watchdog the way it is implemented, I think!

Cheers,
Jostein

i must say im very happy with the system in general, works very well, my only wish would be enlarged horsepower and torque numbers or splash screen able to be put on the graph and printed etc. apart from that i really think it does everything i need and want. again thanks Jostein fantastic system it is a credit to you.

I agree 100% with you. Jostein listens to you and makes his system better. Other companies, you just have what you have.

Folks,

A bug had been introduced for stepper motors in version 3.2.149. Fixed in version 3.2.150, available here: https://yourdyno.com/downloads

I did a small improvement for the Russian translation too.

Cheers
Jostein
