I have just built my self a water brake engine dyno.
I would very much want the start of the run to be more like superflow`s way.
At the start of the run it holds the set start rpm in a steady state untill "start" button is pressed. then it releases and does the sweep...
This would make the run much more repeatable i think.... now i had to use very long "wait" time to make sure it had stabilised the rpm before it started the run, sometimes the start time had timed out before i got he throttle fully opened and so on....
or is this allready an option?

Hi Einar, I have the same setup, homemade waterbrake and steppermotor to control watervalve and also have problems with the regulation of the sweep. How many seconds do you use to hold the rpm steady? And do you then during this time go to full trottle?
I have used the valve manually...for some time now but it would be great to let the "Dynobox" handle the acceleration and sweep.

its the same for me, stepper motor to controll water flow valve.
i used about 8 seconds settle time before sweep started. I have only used it for one engine yet. And yes i apply full throttle during this hold time..
My brake have quite high toeque capacity, so its no problem holding it down low...
i have here a video of me controlling the water flow manually, before i got the stepper motor..
i have now built myself a very nice dyno cell and controll room. Cant wait to start tuning in this...

i think this would be a great idea and give more consistency to each run, allowing to hold the engine until steady then use something like a hot key to start the ramp up on a run

so when you lead in to the run the dyno will hold the engine at steady state start rpm until user lets the sweep start...
I totally understand you MjPower. You want to control the load at a pre_set selected RPM manually.regardles it be light load to WOT.
Just study the way he performs six power runs and how quickly the dyno responds to clamp the engine while the operater holds the engine WOT.
The clip i posted is exactly that but in graphing mode to run a power run from minimum to maximum selected sweep RPM's.

That method works very, very well, I owned the exact setup in the six pulls video and it worked flawless...... We had a shop fire and the Depac was damaged.......Depac Dave had since passed away and there is no one to repair the systems. I bought this system to replace the Depac. We are still installing the system in the dyno room. look forward to getting this system up and running, I think it has alot of promise!!!
