This may be a dumb question because I know nothing about how to write code but is it possible to use the cheap 8 relay board and make a momentary button to use as a starter button?  I'm trying to reduce the wiring back to my control desk if possible and I can run everything off that 8 relay board if I can make a momentary button setup.  Thanks!!

If you are asking if you can press a key on your keyboard to pick up a motor starter using the eBay relay board the answer is now yes as we just released an upgraded plugin for the cheaper USBRelay boards.

You can assign whatever key youd like to be your "momentary button" and it will toggle the relay either on or off.

I have 1 relay tied to my hydraulic motor starter and 1 tied to my cooling water motor starter.

@bigpermgarage Last dumb question, where can I get the updated plugin?  The one I see on the site here is the original that I had downloaded.  Thanks again

So I finally got everything wired up and tested the relay board, it activates the relays but I don't see how or where I configure them to work with the hotkeys.  When I go to the "Options" menu in the Yourdyno software to configure the hotkeys I don't see an option for those relays at all.  Is there something else I need to download or change to make it work? @bigpermgarage

Thanks!!

@james-meyers Can you post a picture of what you are describing? Is it just buttons that say relay 1, relay 2, etc and you click to activate?

If so, you are still using the USB Relay plugin that comes with the YourDyno installation. You need to go to my other forum post and download and install that .dll and remove the originally installed relay plugin.

@bigpermgarage Yes, that is all I am seeing are the buttons on the screen which I can click to activate.  I thought I deleted the original .dll file and installed yours but maybe something didn't work right at that step.  Possibly need to completely uninstall the yourdyno software completely and start over???  I'll mess with it this morning and see what I can do to make it work.  Appreciate all of your help with this, going to make wiring and operation much cleaner all around!!

@james-meyers You're welcome. My brother has also made a standalone little program that shows the relay status in a small window that stays on top always but windows antivirus stuff likes to yell about it so we would like to figure that out first.

Just ran out and tested it, everything works well.  I setup the starter relay to turnoff automatically once the engine rpm is over 500rpm.  I can adjust if needed from here but it works very well on the 8 relay board.

So after some more testing and getting the wiring completed this doesn't look like it's going to work like I wanted.  For some reason I seem to have connection issues with the USB relay, so once the starter runs or the engine starts I lose connection which then leaves the relay engaged which in turn keeps the starter running.  And I then can't shut the ignition off since there is no connection to the USB relay board.  Not sure if anyone has suggestions on how to keep the USB relay board from losing connection but I think I'm going back to manual switches at this point.

@james-meyers I am not sure what you have going on wiring wise or what kind of starter you are engaging but you are probably operating too heavy of a load with these little relays and/or interferance. I have not noticed any connection issues but many things can interfere. You could also be loading down what little USB 5V power is available from the PC?

Let us know what you figure out.

I am trying to run the starter motor on a SBC and the ignition system.  I have the USB relay wired to activate a 30 amp bosch relay which is actually handling the load to the solenoid on the starter and the load for the ignition system.

As far as the USB from the PC to the relay board I am running it through a powered USB extender which has 4 USB inputs which currently has 2 things connected, the USB relay board and the YourDyno system.  The only thing I haven't tried is to disconnect one of them and see if there is just too much on that USB extender.

@james-meyers Both of those things sound fine to me so not sure maybe someone with more experience can help you. I have YourDyno and relay board both connected to the computer USB ports directly then have a hub for wireless keyboard and other stuff. Works fine so far.
