Has anyone considered using a mass airflow sensor to log cfm on an engine dyno ?

It appears the Bosch MAF uses 0-5v .

I would use for 10-30 hp small engines.

Hi, seems no answer from anyone here, but if it gives our 0-5V it should be possible to use!

I asked just to see if anyone had tried it.

Looks like I am the guinea pig.

I attached a page of info in case anyone in the future wants to try.

When I get the time to mess with this, I will wire it up and put it on my flow bench to determine what the cfm is at a given voltage.

Hi Capndiet ,  Can i ask a silly question ? What are you going to do with this cfm data ?

Are you going to measure fuel weight/flow as well ?

Cheers

On single cylinder engines they have a massive amount of reversion in the intake tract.

The MAF reads zero flow at 1 volt and do read negative flow below 1 volt.

In theory, it might help me design intake manifolds to help minimize reversion.

or

It will give me a bunch of useless information.....

@captndiet

Hi Captndiet , It all depends how you analyse the information.
Getting the intake and exhaust pressure wave timing correct is crucial , if incorrect can be a engine power robber!
Get yourself a copy of PipeMax worth every dollar you spend on it. Join the forum Larry Meaux's PipeMax Header Design software at www.maxracesoftware.com
The software will do all the necessary mathematical calculations for you it is staggering the amount of information you will have at hand.
