Yes, the cable makes a difference. There are certainly limits to the length of cable you can use, both because YourDyno gets its power from the USB cable and because of noise. Cables come with different wire gauges (resistance per meter) and different shielding quality. Some come with ferrite beads, which can help in some situations.
