Stepper controller motor set up

My Froude outlet valve will need 120° movment.

I will use a closed loop stepper motor and can dajust the microsteps between 800 and 40000 microsteps

What shold I chose?

Hi Udo , Unfortunately yourdyno doesn't support encoder feedback for position. So if steps are lost during a power run/steady state test yourdyno PID settings will try and correct it but the error will remain there.

fully open to fully closed thats a rotational  movement of 120 degrees but you will never totally close off the outlet valve.  This movement needs to be performed in around 0.5 seconds or less. So the PID function  Kp and Ki can make quick adjustments . So you will maybe? have to using a gearing ratio arrangment rather than directly coupling the stepper motor to the valve. But do the calculations first. ( that stepper motor needs 200 pulse to do a full one revolution, 1.8 degrees per pulse, so direrctly coupled to the valve your stepper motor will be only rotating  fron zero ( 0 ) to one hundred  and twenty  ( 120 ) degrees .  That's 66.67 pulse from 0 degrees to 120 degrees ( 0 % to 100 % ).

You need a speed response of 0.5 seconds from fully open to fully closed. You're going to have to do some mathermatics and calculate the step rate per second.

This is a h&f dyno power full repeated respectively  one after  another run starting the pull from 6500rpm to 9500rpm in roughly a ten (10) second run duration.

The g490EH dynos normally  have a outlet valve for water control but this person jas positioned  the water control valve on the inlet side. Your froude F series is a newer generation dyno but very similar cropped rotor style dyno the G490EH and F0209 Electric ( E ) over Hydraulic ( H ) control valve.

That is confusing me total

What I understand was that the microsteps the steps for one complete rev and the feedback is controlled by encoder and the speed via YourDyno box.

I am wrong ?

Sorry Udo i made it a little convaluded

Yourdyno does control the stepper motor via the driver you posted.

BUT

There is no prevision for stepper motor feed back ( encoder feedback ) support.

Watch Jostiens youtube clip of the stepper motor setup on yourdyno and the PID setup in the software.

Hi Udo , closed loop feedback is not supported by YourDyno! great but where are the signal pins ( ALM+,ALM-, & Pend+,Pend- ) going to hookup back to the YourDyno control box ? There are no previsions too make a physical connection and the yourdyno software doesn't support it. Plus yourdyno PID is only adjusting/tuning from a the RPM signal to targeted set RPM.

That hybrid closeloop controller utube link you posted might actaully conflict with Yourdyno if the feedback wiring harness is connected??? The YourDyno PID tuning/adjusts might be chasing it's tail ??

Jostein care to weigh_in about utilising the hybrid closeloop feedback stepper motor controller??? Even though YourDyno doesn't support closeloop feedback??
