I have always wanted to read the TPS & RPM data of DUCATI and YAMAHA through CAN. Can you please tell me?

It may seem incredible but I'm always overloaded with work and this has been delayed once and again! I'm starting the conversion right now. For the time being I have removed the old EX+ dynojet electronics as well as the Theta controller (I'll be using the YourDyno controller instead).

I have designed a two piece phonic wheel that will be laser cut in two parts and bolted to the existing one tooth dynojet phonic wheel.

I have also fitted the YourDyno DAQ and power supply as well as the zeitronix lambda controllers in the EX+ electronics cabinet to have a neat arrangement. I have also taken the wiring from the Dynojet AFR pump to the cabinet to reach the controllers.

I'm planning to add some external connections for 'analogic' datalogging from my Zeitronix ZT-2 lambda controller and data logger as it has been extremely useful in earlier tunes.

I've been experimenting with a CAN sniffer on some bikes and it seems that I'm now capable of getting data fro, RPM and TPS straight from the bikes so, I'm really pleased with the optional CAN capabilities of the YourDyno DAQ.

I'll be posting separate questions in the forum on particular subjects so they can be useful for anyone.

Any updates on your project?

I did end up with a dynojet 250i and everything is still working on the EX stack and the WinPep 7 software but I went ahead and purchased the YourDyno V5 Package a few minutes ago so I will be upgrading.

Initially I plan to use a Rotary Changeover switch to the retarder so that I can run the YourDyno package and the Winpep 7 simultaneously and be able to select which system will have control over the retarded. Both systems will have independent RPM inputs from the  roller. It should be interesting!!

After so many months, I have finally started converting my Dynojet 250i dyno (motorcycle) to YourDyno. Although by now I have closely studied all the installation documentation, I have some detail questions.

 

I’m trying to do an installation as neat as possible, so I’ve removed the old Dynojet EX+ electronics from its cabinet and I’ve fitted the YourDyno units inside. Besides this, I’ve fitted my Zeitronix Oxygen sensor controllers (2) here and there’s room for updates if needed. The oxygen sensors are fitted in their original place in the Dyno and suction activated by means of compressed air.

As the cabinet has a fan and an air intake in the opposite (front) side, I’ve fitted the retarder power supply in the air stream to keep it properly refrigerated. It’s switched by a contactor (visible in the pictures) remotely operated by a switch on the dyno control panel.

Besides the V5 DAQ, the retarder power supply and the Oxygen sensor controllers, the original EX+ power supply is fitted as long as it provides 15 V for the Zeitronix controllers which can operate between 10 and 18 V, so far, so good.

I’m using two controllers as I work nostly on Ducatis and it’s very important to do independent cylinder tuning.

FIRST QUESTION IS: The controllers are powered by the power supply in the picture. So, my guess is that I should connect the ‘–‘ from the power supply to the ‘0V’ in the DAQ analog input connectors and the 5V signal from the controllers in the ‘signal’.

Then, I’m planning to use the original Dynojet RPM pickups to get engine speed from ignition. The dyno came with TWO different pickups, for primary and secondary circuits and they are a bit different.

The seondary pickup clamp has an extra clamp to be earthed on the bike itself according to Dynojet instructions. There are three pins in its connector: 2 for the pickup ferrite and one for this extra earth clamp. Then, on the inside of the connector in the cabinet, the earth pin is connected to the earth on the dyno cabinet.

The secondary pickup clamp has just one clamp and uses just two pins for the ferrite. Therefore, the wire is not shielded.

In the inner side of the cabinet connector I have the wire to the original electronics. This wire is shielded and shielding is connected to earth in this side.

In the YourDyno V5 DAQ, the connector has three pins: ‘Shield, 0V, Signal’. My obvious guess is that the pickup pins must be connected to 0V and Signal and the wire shield to ‘Shield’. BUT, if I’m not completely wrong, the wire shield should only be connected to one of its ends, the cabinet or the DAQ.

SECOND QUESTION: Is this right? Which end should I connect it to?
