Seems everyone uses a  Sportdevices  Model PWS3.2 Brake Power Supply and  + SCR & diode pack.

Not aware that there is a complete concise documtation woring diagram on how to couple up YourDyno hardware to  a eddy current retarder. But i not 100% sure.

Would be nice if someone ( electronics wizard ) made one avaliable not having to use SD's hardware.

The diagrams are simple block wiring diagram from a oppositions website thats all I'm  aware of.  Maybe Walter could shed some light on the topic as he has made a nice hub_dyno  and used Yourdyno hardware/software + SD power supply. He has a nice thread documented on his journey with his hub_dyno.

Hi,

I have ordered one of those for testing! BUT: Read the spec carefully, you need to multiply the max current by a factor 5 for inductive loads (like eddy brakes). I ordered the 150A version, price difference is not that big.

It looks quite promising from the spec. You just need a diode bridge in addition, which would bring the total cost very low.

Anyone test this yet? I am getting ready to pull the trigger on power supply for my 96v Telma. It looks like the sport device will limit my TQ to about 75% because of the amperage required.

I got report from a guy that tested it and he could not make it work. He ordered the unit without feedback. Maybe the unit with feedback works. Anyone else has tested?

How hard would it be to build a  purpose built Semikron SKPC200 circuit board ?

It is definitely doable. It is standard technology. But I would not go that way for only 1, then I would rather use components like Semikron or even SportDevices, which is plug and play.

SportDevices by the way has a more powerful unit, slappynuts, you can contact them.

I didn't  mean restrict it to a specific model , the Semikron SKPC200 was just used as an example.

All l know is pins 5 and 6 on the Semikron SKPC200 module must be some form of high speed opto_couple as far as the rest of the components triac's , , SCR's , diodes , resistors and capacitors l have no idea.

Josp on you website you have drawn a symbol wiring diagram and shown how to connect yourdyno V3 and V4 you left out the snubber circuit out the picture ? Any reason why but yet further down that page you mention using a snubber filter with a different power control model ?

What are pins 1, 2 and 3 on the Semikron SKPC200-240 phase angle power control module used for  ?

Hello !

I`m new here and i have just bye my first rolling road and have few questions for brake power supply.

Can i use this kind power for my Telma brake and why not ?  https://www.ebay.com/itm/10000W-AC-220V-SCR-Digital-Voltage-Regulator-Speed-Control-Dimmer-Thermostat/390841672655?_trkparms=aid%3D555018%26algo%3DPL.SIM%26ao%3D1%26asc%3D20131003132420%26meid%3D3c1adc50e7aa4939b5a3f046f93d650e%26pid%3D100005%26rk%3D6%26rkt%3D12%26mehot%3Dag%26sd%3D173377235070%26itm%3D390841672655&_trksid=p2047675.c100005.m1851

Yes it need dc converter too but need it something else ?

That systems what SportDevices sell, need it other parts too and do i need Gen 1.5 or PWS3.2 power supply ?

I have telma 135cc retarder.

Sorry if this is a wrong plase and bad English !

Toni

I think problema come with amperage. check the specs you need with that Eddy brake.

Sportdevice sell power supply ready to wire and run.
