Is it possible to use a square wave RPM output from an aftermarket ECU as an RPM reading? Ideally I'd like to use CAN bus but still having issues getting the Holley Sniper CAN bus working. Since the Sniper has a square wave output I was hoping that would work for now. Using an automatic transmission I really need to get away from the roller RPM.

Yes, that is possible. Best to run it through an optocoupler, like this one: SparkFun Opto-isolator Breakout - SparkFun Electronics
Connect to RPM2 or one of the digital channels.
