Q&A Forum
Hi All,
Is it possible to somehow control multiple CAN buses through YourDyno? I want to have a CAN bus running at 500kbit/s to run several permanently attached sensors and data outputs for the dyno, but I also want to be able to read ECU data. I can't use the same CAN bus though since say a PE3 ECU only has a 250kbit/s baud rate option, and FuelTechs FTCAN2.0 only has a 1mbit/s baud rate, both of which are ECU's will tune and want to log data from.
Has anybody found an easy way to do this?
Thank you!

You can have as many devices as you like on the CAN bus, but they need to run the same speed. Normally you can adjust the speed of devices and ECUs so you find one that match all.
If you are incapable of modifying and matching CAN bus rates on devices you wish to work with on a single bus, there are inexpensive to expensive CAN bus bridges that can physically capable of passing or modifying messages between to different CAN bus nodes at different speeds.
Jostein, would it be possible for him to use the built in CAN channel on say a V5 or an Ultimate and then install the CAN bus plugin and effectively then have a CAN 1 (internal) and a CAN 2 (external) by use of the plugin?
@r-horn yes it is possible to use both the built in CAN and the Canalystii plugin.

So I think that would solve my problem then. The manual said not to run the CANTool plugin on the YourDyno v5 and ultimate, so I had assumed there might have been an incompatibility. This is good to know! Thank you!
@spencer it is not due to incompatibility, it is just that the build in CAN support is much better than the plugin.
It is very unusual to be stuck with two different CAN speeds though, normally you can change the bit rate on most devices.
