The instructions in the your dyno manual aren't really clear on how to hook up a innovate motorsports rpm clamp to a v5. How would it be wired and would it require anything additional to make it work? Also any specific settings for it to work once hooked up? Thanks in advance for any help.

Hi, you wire it into the EngRPM input. Just wire it directly. Then you set EngRPM to Engine RPM (inductive pickup) in the RPM settings, and configure the correct number of pulses per Engine rev in Configure. Then the channel name you set for this channel (RPM Pickup is default) will pop up in the list of channels that can be a source for the Gear ratio calculation. You can also turn on that gauge in the Run window.

@admin it is not coming up as an option in the list of sources in the gear ratio setup I only get Techo, enter gear ratio manually, rpm1 and rpm[scantool]. Is there another setting I have wrong preventing me from having rpm pickup or whatever I enter it as come up?

I’m afraid of burning out my v5 so I have to ask just to be clear.  Is it OK to use the innovative motor sports inductive clamp on a secondary ignition cable (the actual spark plug wire) and wired directly to yourdyno v5 EngRPM input? Thanks

@mikefries, yes not a problem. But it picks up the primary (12V) signal more reliably.

@brian-lambert, you are right. I fixed it now, please install https://yourdyno.com/YourDynoInstaller_3.3.33.exe

Thanks for reporting.

Hi,

I've just bought the innovate inductive pick up and I'm unsure how to connect it.

It just has 2 black wires, and there's 4 connections on the rpm2 connector.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

@stephen-booth, you have the YourDyno Standard v5? You have to connect it to the EngRPM input 0V and Signal.

@admin thank you, does it matter which way round the wires go?

@stephen-booth Yes, but you can turn the inductive clamp around the other way if you get it wrong. It is not a problem if you get it wrong.

Note that you need to clamp over a current carrying cable, like the primary (12V) input to the coil, not the high voltage low amp wire to the spark plug.
