Open device manager and see if box is being picked up as you plug the usb in.
Have you tried another cord?

I have tried several different cables makes no difference

it doesn’t show in device manager

and also doesn’t make the noise on the pc when I plug it in

Hardware issue then.
What were you doing when it disconnected? Or the last time it worked.

Whats specs of your system, How is it hooked up.
