Q&A Forum
Hi guys, I have a question about drive train's inertia moment for my brake dyno.
In the software, is set to default 3.2kg*m2, now I think that to have precise misuration, every drive train's dyno have his moment of inertia.
I Connect the engine to kart axel with chain sproket trasmission. At the axel, by elastic joint is connect hydraulic pump used as brake.
Now to calculate proprer moment of inertia, I must consider the moment of inertia of axel and all accessories mounted in to axel (like sproket, trigger wheel, elastico joint etc) ?
I attach a schematic design and photo of Basic configuration of my dyno chassis.
Thanks a lot
Eric
Hi,
The 3.2 kg m^2 is just a default, like there is a default for gear ratio, load arm length, etc. You need to change it.
It is difficult to accurately calculate the correct moment of inertia of the system. It is better to measure it. See this video on how to measure the MOI using YourDyno.

Is necessary repeat this procedure for each engine that I test?
No, each engine/car is quite similar, so the moi will be quite similar too.
