converting Froude FO209 water brake
I am Udo fink from germany, I working since 35 years with motors and have a Froude dyno that i use 2-3 times per year to brake in engines that I build for me ore frends. The Dyno is an froude F0209 and this is a rock solid constriction made for industrial use. I got them 25 yars ago with much luck from a Team that have develop the Group C XJ220 Jaguar on that dyno. The steering complete analoge and I get often trubble with that. Normal I replace all IC and Transistors anf after that it work for the next two years . But now tthat is not working anymore and it is time to replace. The outlet valve was controlled by an hydraulic actor and should be replace with an stepper motor.
Here I need your help, how can I calculate the force that needed to operate the throttel blade style valve ?

Hi Udo , Nice my first time I have seen a Froude F0209 engine brake dynamometer ID_tag , this is a high speed 750Kw (1005Bhp)@7,000/16,000 RPM engine dyno. Is it possible to get more pictures of the whole Froude F0209 engine brake dynamometer from many angles please plus the remote control panel and hydraulic pump system?
What engines have you been testing on this Froude F0209 engine brake dynamometer ? Can you share the Bhp@RPM you have been testing them at ?
On your Froude F0209 engine brake dynamometer the water is controlled on the outlet, I'm only going on the picture you posted ???? only? or both inlet and outlet ?
I have a couple of H&F G-series engine hydraulic dynamometer models, one GB4 and a G490EH and a friend of mine has a F246.
I'm converting a H&F GB4 engine hydraulic dynamometer.
I love the sound and the speed the G490EH is controlled on this youtube clip which I have already posted on this forum. Look at the tacho ! and look at the water inlet stepper motor size and gear arrangement.
KEY to Model Letter Designations:
D= Dual Compartment,
AV= Axial Vane (bi-directional),
GT= Gas Turbine,
FRR= Fixed Return Ring
F359: 35 = rotor size (cm),
9 = 90° crop on rotor
it is controlled only beý outlet.
The control unit ist there and I can made pictures. I have all factory paperwork for it.
I not use it often and in the past I have many problems with the controll unit. Somtimes when I switch them on it have peaks and the gauges not working. then I cange any small IC and after that it work for a while but lat time during a test the controller went off and motor rev up I was just fast enough to get throttle off before overrev. There is some defect in the controller board and I will switch to YouDyno because it is the most economy way.
Most Motor I do are V8 in the 150-800HP range so the roped rotor is not the best for my use the motors can only brake down to 3000-3500rpm
Yes Udo your froude f0209 has a
cropped rotor ends. I'm actaully suprised that the
dyno loads up at 3000 to 3500 RPM ... I'm only going
of you ID_Tag information but the working range is
7000rpm to 16.000rpm.
Can you look in the froude f209
workshop manual ans see if
there is a torque power curve
operating graph and post a
picture of it please?
