Nice work Bmgjet ,  i definetly will need extra relays for my engine dyno room to control a few items.

Will this extra feature be avaliable for other yourdyno uses ?

I was thinking using the arduino and a 8 or 16 channel relay shield independent of yourdyno controller.

Yeah will be for all users, Just waiting on permission to be allowed to hook into the software to pull values from it. Like how you can get hacks for computer games by hooking into it.

Other wise I can always just make it stand alone but then it will require input from user to activate relays on screen.

bmjet,

The idea of a plugin system for YourDyno is really good. I am all for a way to make anyone contribute to the software, without exposing the source code, and plug-ins can be the way to go! I will look at how to do that technically.

Im postphoning this until the plugin system is in place since make it nicer to have everything in a unified system so each update doesnt break compatiblity which it would if I was hooking the software.

If you need something urgent for your system I can throw together a simple program to work with your specific version.

Got a working alpha of this mod as a useable plugin so far.
Dont know how far I should take it tho since could add a simple scripting window so you can control it for your own input conditions.
But then the VM167 looks like a much better addon board to use. But its $100 vs the $4 this board costs so its sort of a easy cheap board to get and not be too worried about burning it out driving loads too high though it or excessive flyback voltage from switching something.

Nice work ,  you certainly are keen and hard worker doing unpaid over time ! You wanna come and work for me in SUNNY MELBOURNE  AUSTRALIA ?

Is   Arduino Mega  ATmega2560   and/or
Teensy (3.0 , 3.1, .... 3.5 , 3.6 )
Microcontroller feasible to use as a
USB interface for additional channels
at a quarter/third of a price of
velleman module vm167 USB interface
board ?

LOL fare call , next weeks temperature is all in the 30C plus.

Any thoughts on the  ardunio mega ATMega2560 and teensy range of microcontrollers as USB interfaces ?

Havnt had enough experience with ardunio in that fasion to know how well it would work.
Labjack is another input board im looking at. Specifically the wifi one since im using one of them for my smart home sensors. But then its quite expensive and better value would be just to run a long usb cable to a VM167. But im trying to free up the dyno room of extra wires so thats where the wifi labjack would come in handy with some probes made up to back probe the ECU loom and hook into all the sensors for a ECUs that I dont have direct datalogging for.

Bought the bluebox home with me tonight lol, At the moment im playing with using my car number plate reader libary that I made for my home secuirty system.
The idea being use the dyno rooms webcam to auto load cars profiles on what number plate it sees on the car.
Probably not a plugin ill be able to share tho since its extreamly large being based of tessnet2 libary and 180mb of nz number plate training data.
So would only work in NZ and most people wouldnt have access to making there own training data and im not willing to crunch it for them since it took 4 days straight to make the NZ one on my 7980XE CPU, (18 core, 36 threads).

My suggestion? Keep it simple and world-wide universal in terms of the used input/output board. I'd like to be able to control dyno fan, dyno 'get-off-the-rollers brake', maybe warning sign as you are doing (I reckon that warning is a really cool idea!).

Also want 6-8 extra analog inputs, and maybe a couple of digital ones.

$100 for the board is fine if the software works seamlessly (ie on-screen output controls and gauges/logging) with YourDyno. Better to standardise on one widely available board, even if it costs a bit more than what is possible.

Incidentally, my YourDyno package is on its way. I am working on the dyno power supply in the next few days.

(And it's been 40 degrees C or more here for the last 4 days - makes it hard to go out to the shed and work on getting a dyno up and running!)
