Hi! I think someone mentioned it but nobody had tried yet, so I just tested the common megasquirt/speeduino VR conditioner (MAX9926UAEE IC) with a inductive clamp on a ignition lead and it worked just fine! 😉 Going to try it out when the dyno is sandblasted and ready for use! 🙂

That's cool to hear! Can you post a pic and the circuit diagram?

I`ll do that when it`s finished. I used a Speduino and wired in the inductive clamp for testing,  and as long as the speduino sees the 0-5V square signal from the conditioning board yourdyno should do it as well 🙂

I tried feeding Yourdyno the output from the vr conditioner and it worked great! So Jostein, what is the supplied voltage for the RPM 1&2 V+ connection? The multimeter was missing so I where unable to check. If it is something else than 5V I guess a resistor or I may use the 5V supply for the load cell?

Here is the connections for the conditioner:  https://speeduino.com/wiki/index.php/VR_conditioner

Orient according to the square solder pad and wire accordingly.

I`ve bought the vr conditioner (and Speduino :)) here:  https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Dual-VR-Conditioner-V3-Free-International-Shipping-Speeduino-Megasquirt/192732387562?hash=item2cdfbed8ea:g:02wAAOSwJ-pbCnQh:rk:2:pf:0

Hi,

Great work! The V+ on the RPM input is 7-8V, so do not use that directly. You could add a 5V regulator and feed this from V+ or use the 5V from the load cell. I don't expect this circuit draws much current or is noisy, but you could check.

Note that the RPM Signal input really does not tolerate higher input than 5V. The YourDyno board can be damaged if higher input voltages are applied. The Signal input has an internal pull-up to 5V, so open collector type outputs or 5V push-pull outputs can be connected to it.

Hi again!

After wiring it up and mounted in a enclosure the bluebox read constantly 10000rpm when it was connected, after swapping to an shielded cable it read zero. I`ve ordered another vr conditioner, but also the Dtec adapter, will update when or if I test the new vr conditioner!

Well, found the problem.... My inductive clamp shielded cable has a resistor between the shield and signal wire. As I connected the shield to the common ground it pulled down the signal and behold the sporadic behavior. Works fine now, but I guess its the safer route to stay with the rpm adapter from dtec when I already bought it 😉

Hi...for low signals A carries the full sensor signal, AC coupled to R11.For very high signals (speeds if inductive sensor) the voltage in A is
limited by the zener. There may be other and better ways to do this.Is the sensor grounded on one side? if not go differential to reduce noise,
with offset compensation.
