Hello,

So i recently got my Yourdyno v5 in the mail. but when i wanted to test the RPM sensor that i bought at yourdyno it just doest seem te read it. tried to put it in RPM1 and RPM2 but with but of them it doesnt seem to work. When i click on the RPM setup in the Running session screen and select for example RPM1 and then click “ok” it says “At least one RPM input must measure the brake/roller RPM”

when i test the RPM on the dyno it also doesnt measure anything.

am i doing something wrong or is the RPM sensor bad?

Greats,

Brent

Yes you need at least 1 RPM sensor setup to read the brake/roller RPM.

Do it like this:

1) Options->RPM/Frequency channels: Set RPM1 to be Load cell 1 RPM. Click Configure and set 30 pulses per revolution (or something else if you don't use the YourDyno trigger wheel)

2) In the Run window, click RPM setup. Set Engine RPM source to Tacho and enter the RPM you want to hold when calculating the gear ratio (f.ex 2000). Hold 2000 RPM in the gear you are going to test in and click Lock gear ratio.

That's it.

If you want to just see if RPM1 reads, then turn on the RPM1 gauge (click Gauge on/off and select it from the list).

Its seem as the manual on the website is not correct for a V5 hardware as there ir says the Engine Rpm input (most left one on the unit) has an internal pull up and does not require and extra pull up wheb connectingn like an opto coupler to read from a coil primary. This is false as the Signal pin has no pull up and if you use an opto like in the manual offcourse u cannot read any rpm. I connected the Signal like to 5v w a 470 Ohm resistor and it only gives a bit over 1v so it looks like it has a 100 ohm or thereabouts pull down.

W the 470 Ohm external pull up it works fine though even if tjat gives me a 0-1v square wave on the Signal pin.

@rub87, the EngRPM input is designed for an inductive pickup, but it may work with other sensors too. I will update the manual

Hmm ok yes I wasnt brave enough to feed a 30v sine wave in ???? but good to know that it is capable of just hooking it to a standard VR crank sensor????????

No it is not made for a VR sensor. There are VR to Digital converters if you need to use a VR sensor.
