I have 2 Telma retarders from the Volvo B10 bus to rebuild for my hub dyno project. But unfortunately the first one I have stripped has broken external coil wires. Has anyone successfully been able to remove the coils without destroying them in the process? They seem pretty well stuck in place. I am hoping to be able to carry out a repair on the removed coil

I would attach a couple of photo's but I can't see the "choose file" to attach them. I have removed the pole shoes

What did you do for replacement coils?

The insulation resistance of the coils were too low, so i had to replace them. I made new coils myself from a new aluminum coil wire.

I hope you have measured your all coils with insulation resistance meter...

Not got that far yet, think I will have to rewind all of them too, do you have more info on how you rewound your coils such as the spec of wire used and insulation materials etc.

I used same diameter coil wire as the original coil wire was. I wind the wire about 240 loops (if i remember correct) to get same resistance as the original coils. I used 2mm rubber mat to insulate the inside and the ends of the coil, outside i just wrapped with electrical tape 😄 This might not been the right way to do it, but it has worked several years now 🙂
