I cant find any instruction on setting up the speed sensor
Is there a number of teeth that is optimal for the speed sensor?
And does the pickup have to be fitted in a certain way?

Number of teeth, that's a good question:
- For an inertia dyno the trigger wheel is very important, and described here: http://yourdyno.com/inertia-dynos/
- For a brake dyno without automatic brake, you can normally use 1 or 2 teeth, but for slow RPMs you may need more.
- For optimum operation with automatic brake control you should use a wheel that provides at least 20 pulses per second. It will work with less, but try getting to at least 20.
Here is the logic:
The dyno needs 2 pulses to produce 1 RPM sample. The brake output is changed 10 times per second. So if you don't get 2 RPM samples 10 times per second, it means you sometimes have no new RPM data for the next brake output sample. So the regulation is slower. Therefore, go for at least 20 samples /second.
Data is updated 100 times per second. If you have more than 200 pulses per second, the kit makes an average, which does no harm, but not necessary. The RPM does not change THAT fast and we don't need to track very small changes (that is different for inertia dynos).
Note that the distance between the teeth of the wheel must be as regular as possible, otherwise you will see some noise in the RPM graph vs time, and this translates to noise in the HP/Torque vs RPM view too.
