Hi just found your fab site, i have an old sun ram III rolling road with a Klam retarder.  I'm looking to upgrade it with your kit but need further information and help please so i can check if the retarder is working correctly and costings....

The klam retarder needs a good service and check over. Its 96 volt type 8.  What should the air gap be ? and how do i check the coils are all working correctly ?  Also what sort of power HP  should it hold ?

The old transformer needs work, can i do away with that and just use the sport devices retarder power control unit to power and control it ? like the one that is described in your retarder section....

Any help greatly appreciated please.

Thank you

Hi, yes ditch the transformer and go for a SportsDevices power supply. YourDyno can control it directly, giving you brake curves, etc. You need to set the power supply to 100V output. You should double check the current draw on your brake vs the spec of the SportsDevices, but it is probably ok.

For the air gap, maybe someone else can help?

Thanks that sounds good.  I have tried e mailing sport devices but had no reply, thats been over a week now !

I,m amazed that box can replace the large transformer ?  any idea how long the box will power the retarder for before it over heats and cuts out ?  How does it get rid of its heat ?  Cant see any type of heat sink .....

I'm not familiar with this Klam chassis dynamometer

On your Sun Ram III rolling road dyno with a Klam retarder ( Klam retarder 96Volts type 8 ).

Q1 How many coils are there on the Klam retarder ?

Q2 What is the resistance of the individual coils ?

Q3 What is the mains power supply in your country ( AC volts and Amperage) ?
