Q&A Forum
Hi Jostein!
I'm going to use Innovate RPM pickup for the initial engine RPM readings.
As the manual says - the best solution is to change the cable to shielded one.
The best solution is to use just shielded cable, something like 2x0.25mm2 or RG coaxial cable?
If regular cable to be used the screen could be connected only at YourDyno side. In case of coaxial - there is no separate shield. How to connect properly?
P.S.: May I ask you to allow me to post messages without moderation each time?
You should go for a 2 wire shielded wire. So the shield is in addition to the two wires, with the screen and the two wires connected to the YourDyno box.
The forum moderation automatically disappears by some built-in logic, I think it looks at number of posts within within a certain time.
its worth noting the shield is to protect the wires from interfearance, it needs earthing, but should only be earthed at one end, or it can be worse than not having any shielding at all
I've got a new inductive pickup, it was called Fluke RPM80, but there are no any branding except some old school stickers inside.
It is equipped with a standard shielded microphone cable (twisted RED+BLUE and SHIELD), but the coil is connected to SHIELD and BLUE wires, RED is connected to the metal clip above the ferrite (some sort of shielding).
The connector is the standard TRS 6.5 Jack, but seems it is something handmade, because the red wire is not connected.
Have some ideas why the coil is connected that way (instead of we are discussed earlier)?
