So, since we are getting close to getting the dyno up and running I decided to throw PC together for it.

Originally I had planned to use the PC that we got with the dyno, but then looked at system requirements in the wiki and realized it was no where near enough, some old single core CPU, no biggy.

So I've been going through my stash of PC parts, I do have one Mobo and CPU that should fit the bill, though a little low on base frequency, but I'm having a hard time getting it to post properly and seems to be an issue with that MoBo in my searches to solve the issue. CPU is a Q6600 for reference on that one.

Anyway, another PC I have, that is actually in use, but I can move PCs around if it will work, it has an Intel Xeon X5550 CPU, it's a 4 core, 8 thread CPU, but has a base frequency of 2.67 GHz. 

Does number of total threads benefit YourDyno, or only physical processors?

I'm a little confused on the bench mark rating in the wiki, it says "10.000" (ten) and should be at least "5.000" (five), is that supposed to be 10,000 (ten thousand) and 5,000 (five thousand)? If it is then the X5550 is still rated low at 3015.

I don't mind buying something newer, I'm just trying to get use out of parts I have kicking around, and I'm getting kinda tapped on cash flow at the moment, so the less I have to spend right now, the better it is, and can always upgrade the PC later.

Or I might just have to use my laptop for now, which is well above the system requirements, I'd just like a PC that is permanent to the dyno.

Correct, a really good CPU mark is 10000, but 5000 works too. You want 4 cores or more so that you can split the work over several cores (calculating results and brake control, drawing gauges, drawing graphs, and other things including processes outside of YourDyno). 

Also go for at least 8GB ram. 3015 is low, I recommend higher. Even if it may work, it is much nicer to work with the dyno if it opens windows quickly, updates graphs and gauges with a high update rate, opens runs quickly, etc.

A sign that the PC is struggling is if the data connection blinks yellow or red during a run.

Alright, I'll find another CPU/MoBo to use for the Dyno than anything I have kicking around.

I'll probably just use my laptop initially, since it's plenty above the requirements.

So, just to be clear, more physical processors is a benefit over threads?

As in an 8 core CPU without hyperthreading will work better than 4 core with hyperthreading (8 threads), or would they be about equal, provided that the rest of the specs are the same/close. I know there's no easy way to directly compare, at least not without having a multicore CPU and disabling cores to test, which I'm sure hasn't been high on anyone's list of things to test. lol
