Q&A Forum
I'm looking into running an optical pickup for RPM sensing, opposed to our currently installed trigger wheel.
I've found a potential option from Monarch Instruments that can operate from 3.3v-15v with a 40ma current draw.
The output of this sensor is a +Vcc to 0V square wave.

Would this be a viable sensor to directly connect to the RPM input on the YourDyno box? Or would it be better to connect to an Opto-Isolator circuit first? I'd prefer not to use an opto-isolator if this is a safe enough sensor to interface. Omitting the opto-isolator would keep switching delay lower, so that I can have more trigger points around the perimeter of the dyno.
Thank you!

Hi,
Yes, that looks compatible with YourDyno.
