Hi all,

Looking for recommendations to remove ignition noise that is getting into the dyno RPM encoder.

Small 2 stroke engine dyno with eddy current retarder.
Using Yourdyno data and eddy current power supply.

RPM uses a 100PPR encoder.

Noise can be seen in the picture. - https://drive.google.com/file/d/1AW6baKwEpA9Q49ClNCE6N4fe7FzxThM9/view?usp=sharing

when I turn the engine off while running the noise stops. - perfect square wave.

I have disconnected all other items on the controller. only the RPM encoder remaining and the noise is still present. so not coming in through another connection.

Thanks

Here are things to try:

  • Ensure your RPM cable is shielded and that shield is connected in one end only (typically at the YourDyno side)
  • Avoid cable coils, use as short cables as possible
  • Route cables away from noise generating cables/units
  • Ground the engine/dyno stand
  • Use resistorized spark plugs and RFI suppression spark plug wires

Regards,

Jostein
