I have recently bought a DPX3 water brake Dyno which is still set up as an analogue unit with manual sluice gate control. It has a load cell fitted with a read out of HP/Torque. My plan is to use the your Dyno control unit to update the whole setup and was wondering if anyone has fitted some sort of motor to operate the sluice gates ? If so any ideas or pictures would be very welcome ! It appears to be 25 turns on the handle from fully open to fully closed

thanks

Hi there, and welcome to the forum. Can you post a pic of the valve?

You can hook up a stepper motor instead of the wheel. I guess you would need a powerful stepper, judging by the size of the wheel (check the torque needed when under full water pressure).

25 revs is going to be a bit slow, but I expect this brake is made such that a nice sweep can be made without fast adjustments. After all it is possible to run it manually, plus a sweep will not need the full open-closed travel.

Hooking up a stepper to YourDyno is plug and play, you just need a stepper motor driver and external power in addition to the YourDyno box.

Sounds good thanks, I’ll find a stepper motor and make up a drive system of some sort
