Q&A Forum
Hi.
Does anyone know if it is possible to read engine rpm with a spark wire clamp through canbus plugin?
And if there is does it work with the gearratio setup window?
Thanks
This is covered in the manual, also some information in threads, that show circuitry needed for this.
Ok then i have to look again😉
My concern is that i will use another input than rpm2
Thats why i thought about canbus
Sorry I misread your original post.
However, there are addon USB boards that would likely be easier to use if you didn't want to use RPM2in. To use CANBUS you would need a HT clamp that has CANBUS connectivity, if something like that exists I haven't come across it, though it might for another dyno company, and wouldn't be too surprised by that.
Most of the time the CANBUS RPM input is used to connect to ECUs.
The easiest way would be via the VM167 and associated plugin. The VM167 module has a 1mhz counter on digital pin 1, which could be used in conjunction with the MSD 8918 RPM pickup.
I'm not a coder so wouldn't know where to start in relation to changing the current yourdyno VM167 plugin to incorporate this 🙁
Hi.
I cant code either🙂
But that could be a way to do it.
I see that AEM has some can adapters that seem to have the option.
Maybe thats the way to go
@thdyno the VM SDK has a demo that uses the Counter, i also have the MSD pick up. My hubdyno is due in next few weeks, so I will needing an rpm input for older vehicles including pre 96' toyota supras etc, so will have a go at writing or modifying existing plugin...cant be that hard lol 🙂
Hi,
Yes a small extension to the VM167 plugin can create an RPM signal, or read other frequency based sensors like flow meters. I will take a look. There are also various CAN bus devices that can provide an RPM signal, this can be used as well.
