After studying Eddie brake designs I notice that there are several different styles of magnet shoes. Seems that chassis Dynos use a symmetrical centered Magnet shoe. Some truck retarders use an asymmetrical offset magnet shoe. Another design was a symmetrical offset shoe. An asymmetrical shoe I assume is designed that way because it operates only in One Direction and is designed to give the maximum braking in that direction. The symmetrical magnet shoe I would think is designed to give maximum braking in each direction of rotation. My question is do I want a symmetrical shoe, an asymmetrical shoe That would give maximum braking in One Direction only or do I want asymmetrical offset shoe. 99% of the cars I would be doing would be only in One Direction so really not needing a symmetrical shoe.
