Q&A Forum
Hi Guys,
In the process of trying to design a very budget dyno setup for myself to use on a vehicle. I have downloaded the yourdyno software and was wondering the best way to connect my AFR readings and tacho input into the laptop? Being on a tight budget and not 100% sure if my concept will work as yet I dont want to fork out the money for the connection box.
If I was to buy a analogue to digital convertor chip would this work? Or would I need to write a code onto a raspberry pi/arduino to convert the information?
Would I just need to plug in the chipset of whatever I end up getting and the software will recognise it? Or do I need to set something up in the software to actually interpret these values?
If anyone could give me some advice to get the ball rolling that would be great.
Thanks
Brad
Brad, That won't work. YourDyno will only work with a YourDyno box connected. Even plugins need the box if you want logging.
I'm sure you can understand why it is made like that, with software being free.
Im guessing you dont have a dyno with a retarder in it if your planning to run just laptop hooked up to sensors.
If your just wanting something to get numbers and a graph of the power band those dyno programs on your phone that work based off car weight, gear ratio and accleration arnt too bad. Be enough to find flat spots in your tune and are free last time I checked.
They give near the same power graph for my car. The main difference being the consistancy, which with my playing on a private road that was perfectly flat I still had +- 10hp difference on back to back runs and the top of the power graph being quite a bit lower then on a actural dyno (Most likely because of air resistance)
If your building a inertia dyno or braked dyno then yeah youll need a YourDyno box which is the best value bit of kit around.
hello
For first contact with home made dyno its good open source project Simpledyno. Used sound card or arduino for input some signal.
For next time is yourdyno best system in world for Diy dyno.
I tested many system for diy dyno (Dtec, simpledyno, dynomec, motocomtest) and used only yourdyno now
