Hello
I have an inertia dyno with a roller weight of about 350kg and 400mm diameter.

I measure mainly tuned two-stroke scooters and enduros.

Wanted now possibly flange an eddy current brake to the role.
To be able to simulate load conditions

How big should the brake be to be able to measure really big street bikes afterwards.

Is something like a telma f130 already too small?

this is my dyno

specs telma f130

Hi,

It is pretty straight forward to add a brake. F130 is maybe slightly small if you run for long, something like 1600Nm is better. For controlled sweeps the 130 is for sure large enough.

However, the F130 is a focal retarder, which are not that easy mechanically to use in a dyno. You should go for a retarder with through axle such that it can rest of a pillow bearing on each side of the retarder.

This is all hobby for me, so must look to buy a used brake, from an old truck.

The F-series is probably for direct mounting on gearbox or axle.
According to the parts catalog it has no internal bearings.

Thus really not easy to adapt.
Thanks for the tip.

must probably look for something like the C or CC series with bearing central shaft.

if i can do controlled sweeps with big street bikes and longer load simulations with the scooters i will be happy.

For more then anyway my ventilation is too weak

Moin Werner,

How are you going to attach the retarder to the roller? The stub axle on the roller is too short to attach a clutch or universal joint.
The picture shows my unit and how I solved it.

Greetings Marco 😀

This is a good point

Today I meet a friend, he has the skills to calculate such things.

If we can connect something on the shaft (d60mm) and how much torque we can transfer.

But basically
For a braked measurement wiht the yourdyno system
Is there the weight of the role a disadvantage?

Have found older topics where it was advised,to get rid of the weight...

in principle, i see 2 possibilities for me.

Either a large retarder with load cell, convert the measuring system to Yourdyno.

Or a possibly smaller retarder without load cell and a simple PID speed control for the retarder.

simply to be able to simulate loads with the retarder, and to brake down the roller quickly between the runs.

But always measure purely via the inertia...
